Risk Manager | Amsted Industries
Chicago, Illinois, USA
Ann Barry’s career trajectory within Amsted Industries reflects a personal journey of growth as well as Amsted Industries’ dedication to cultivating talent and fostering professional development. Ann initially joined Amsted as an IP Paralegal in 2010, gradually ascending the ranks through her dedication and the organization’s unwavering support. Today she serves as Risk Manager, contributing her knowledge and experience to the company’s global risk management efforts.
“RISE gave me the opportunity to connect with emerging leaders from a wide range of departments and leadership levels. It broadened my perspective and helped build authentic, collaborative relationships that I likely wouldn’t have formed otherwise.”
Ann’s career began during a challenging job market where recent graduates with little experience were often overlooked, but Amsted recognized her potential and brought her on board. Although she never envisioned a career in the manufacturing industry, Amsted offered diverse opportunities for Ann to grow and thrive. Ann was a participant in Amsted’s RISE Executive Education Program that is intended to enhance promising employees’ skills and management capabilities to help shape the future of the company.
Ann’s definition of success is striking the right balance between professional growth and personal life, and she believes she’s found that balance. Amsted’s emphasis of work-life balance has kept her dedicated to the company for over a decade, providing her with a fulfilling career without sacrificing precious family moments.
Amsted truly values its employees, Ann says, celebrating both their professional and personal achievements. The culture fosters camaraderie and support among colleagues, exemplifying a workplace where everyone has each other’s backs.
“As an ESOP, a central part of our philosophy is to support hardworking individuals across the U.S. by helping them build financial security for retirement.”
Ann believes Amsted’s ESOP structure is what drives the company’s tight-knit culture. As an employee-owner, Ann is able to amplify her abilities to connect with colleagues and break down corporate barriers to ensure her colleagues have the support and information they need to excel. She also celebrates the ESOP for empowering employees to achieve financial security.
Ann is proud to be a part of Amsted because the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and addressing dynamic market needs plays a crucial role in shaping the nation’s infrastructure. But what excites her the most is the influx of talented recruits that promises to bring fresh perspectives and further elevate the company.
For those starting their careers, Ann emphasizes curiosity and networking. Getting out, meeting people, and understanding the business from the ground up are essential. She encourages involvement in meetings and seizing opportunities actively, as there is abundant potential within Amsted for those who seek it out.
