De heer Smith trad in 2005 in dienst bij Amsted als president van Amsted Rail, werd in 2007 general counsel en werd in 2017 benoemd tot President en Chief Executive Officer. Voordat hij bij Amsted in dienst trad, was de heer Smith van 1999 tot 2005 general counsel en president van de shared services operati ons in Noord &#8211; Amerika van GKN plc, een FTSE &#8211; genoteerd Brits gediversifieerd engineeringbedrijf; en van 1991 tot 1999 was hij vice &#8211; president, secretaris en general counsel van The Interlake Corporation, een NYSE &#8211; genoteerd gediversifieerd productiebedrijf. De heer Smith begon zijn juridische loopbaan in 1982 bij het advocatenkantoor Hopkins &amp; Sutter in Chicago (sindsdien gefuseerd tot Foley &amp; Lardner), waar hij vennoot was en voorzitter van de groep corporate transacties.
