Smith a \u00e9t\u00e9, de 1999 \u00e0 2005, avocat g\u00e9n\u00e9ral et pr\u00e9sident des op\u00e9rations de services partag\u00e9s en Am\u00e9rique du Nord de GKN plc, une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 britannique d&#8217;ing\u00e9nierie diversifi\u00e9e cot\u00e9e au FTSE ; et de 1991 \u00e0 1999, vice-pr\u00e9sident, secr\u00e9taire et avocat g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de The Interlake Corporation, une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 manufacturi\u00e8re diversifi\u00e9e cot\u00e9e au NYSE. M. Smith a commenc\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re juridique en 1982 au sein du cabinet d&#8217;avocats Hopkins &amp; Sutter de Chicago (fusionn\u00e9 depuis en Foley &amp; Lardner), o\u00f9 il \u00e9tait associ\u00e9 et pr\u00e9sident du groupe charg\u00e9 des transactions d&#8217;entreprises. M.
